Hajaj

Hajaj is a Saudi‑British singer‑songwriter and producer whose singular journey informs a contemporary soul grounded in exile, the search for meaning, and introspection. Born in Jeddah, he moved through a succession of cities and cultures during his youth — from Switzerland to California, via Barcelona and London. It was in London that he met producer and multi‑instrumentalist Aidan Glover, with whom he shaped Last Call For Coco, an EP conceived as an homage to the golden age of soul in the 1960s and 1970s. Recorded entirely to tape at Talbot Studios and driven by London jazz musicians, the project also owes much to collaborators such as Rhys Lewis, Richard Wilkinson and Gwyn Mathias, and unfolds in twenty minutes the emotional cycle of a relationship marked by undiagnosed bipolarity. Raised in a household receptive to the arts despite a very restrictive social context in Saudi Arabia, Hajaj grew up between Arabic poetry, Paco de Lucía, Talal Maddah and Pharrell, finding in writing a way to articulate what everyday language could not. His music constantly questions identity, belonging and nostalgia — a recurring “why” that runs through his lyrics. Although he pursued an academic path oriented toward the family business, he never stopped composing; he now produces between Jeddah and London, where he is developing his next album, Meso.
