Doc Walker

Active since the mid-1990s, Doc Walker has been part of the Canadian country scene out of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, built around core members Chris Thorsteinson and Dave Wasyliw—initially as a trio with Steven Fletcher, then in a line-up that evolved over time. The band has crafted a contemporary country sound defined by electric and acoustic guitars, prominent vocal harmonies, and rock and roots influences—akin to North American country radio while remaining rooted in Prairie imagery. After early years on the local and regional circuit, the group drew national attention in the early 2000s, notably with the albums Good Day to Ride (2001) and Everyone Aboard (2003), followed by the self-titled Doc Walker (2006). Subsequent releases—Beautiful Life (2008), Go (2009), the compilation 16 & 1 (2011), The 8th (2014), and Weathervane (2017)—attest to a lasting place within English-language Canadian country. Regularly on tour and festival bills, Doc Walker has collaborated widely across the Western Canadian country scene and, over the years, earned multiple awards, including at the Canadian Country Music Awards, while maintaining a steady recording and performing schedule.
