Charlie Major

Born in Aylmer, Quebec, in 1954, Charlie Major stands in the North American country tradition while rooting his songwriting in everyday Canadian life. A singer-songwriter, he first honed his craft in local bands before moving to Nashville in the 1980s, where he devoted himself to writing songs for other musicians, returning to Canada in the early 1990s. The release of his debut album, The Other Side, in 1993 established Charlie Major on the Canadian country scene, followed by Lucky Man in 1995 and Everything’s Alright in 1997, which confirmed a blend of introspective songwriting and accessible country-rock sounds. Through the 2000s, Major continued with Inside Out (2004) and On the Evening Side (2011), while touring extensively at venues and festivals across the country. His music is marked by straightforward, narrative writing focused on middle-class lives, relationships, and rural landscapes, carried by a warm voice and arrangements that range from acoustic ballads to more up-tempo tracks. Remaining close to a traditional country format yet open to folk and rock influences, Charlie Major has established himself as a steady songwriter devoted to the craft and to the stage, where he continues to present a repertoire built over several decades.
