Deafheaven

Formed in 2010 in San Francisco, Deafheaven emerged around singer George Clarke and guitarist Kerry McCoy, initially as a duo before becoming a full band. Positioned between black metal, shoegaze, post‑rock and alternative rock, Deafheaven crafts long, highly contrasted tracks where blast beats and screamed vocals sit alongside melodic guitars, atmospheric layers and passages that verge on dream pop. After a self‑produced demo the band signed to Deathwish Inc. and released Roads to Judah in 2011, followed by Sunbather in 2013—an album that established an aesthetic combining extreme violence with luminous harmonies. New Bermuda (2015) and Ordinary Corrupt Human Love (2018) deepened this rupture‑based songwriting with more complex structures and an increased emphasis on rock influences and contemplative moods. The studio live release 10 Years Gone (2020) revisits different periods of Deafheaven, while Infinite Granite (2021) places greater emphasis on clean singing and shoegaze textures, while retaining a tension inherited from metal. Active on metal, indie and alternative stages in North America, Europe and beyond, Deafheaven inhabits a landscape where the boundaries between extreme and atmospheric music are constantly being reshaped.
