Holy Fawn

Born in Phoenix, Arizona, Holy Fawn formed in 2015 around Ryan Osterman, following his work with the folk project Owl & Penny. The original lineup included Evan Phelps, Alexander Rieth and Austin Reinholz. Holy Fawn developed a sound at the crossroads of shoegaze, blackgaze, post‑black metal and post‑rock, characterized by heavily reverbed guitars, massive crescendos, ambient passages and vocals that alternate between melodic breath and more abrasive tension. The band first drew attention with the EP Realms in 2015, then refined this aesthetic on Death Spells in 2018 — an album initially self‑released and reissued by Triple Crown Records in 2019. The EP The Black Moon followed in 2020, during which period they toured North America alongside Thrice, mewithoutYou and Drug Church. In 2022, Dimensional Bleed further expanded the group’s palette with subtle electronic textures and a more pronounced focus on contrasts between heaviness and suspension. Still rooted in songwriting nourished by natural imagery and nocturnal atmospheres, Holy Fawn occupies a scene where atmospheric metal, experimental rock and contemplative music intersect.
