Friction

Born in Brighton in 1979, British DJ and producer Ed Keeley, known as Friction, made his mark on the drum & bass scene in the late 1990s with a series of maxis released on labels such as Renegade Hardware, Valve Recordings and Trouble On Vinyl. In 2004 Friction founded the label Shogun Audio, which became the main outlet for his productions and a catalogue focused on drum & bass that is both technical and melodic, ranging from vocal tracks to club-oriented cuts. His DJ style emphasizes quick selections, tight transitions and navigation between liquid sonics, darker neuro influences and explicitly dancefloor-oriented registers. Between 2012 and 2017 Friction hosted the Drum & Bass Show on BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra, reinforcing his presence on the British and international scene. At the same time he launched the label Elevate Records in 2016, dedicated to a more upfront approach to the genre, and in 2018 released his first studio album, Connections, which brings together different aspects of his work as a producer and DJ.
