Mon Rovîa

Born in Monrovia, Liberia, Janjay Lowe grew up in the United States after being adopted as a child by an American family, living between Florida, Montana, the Bahamas and Tennessee, where he notably discovered folk music in Chattanooga. Under the name Mon Rovîa, chosen in reference to his hometown, he released his first tracks in 2017 and developed a songwriting voice at the crossroads of folk, Americana and an Afro-diasporic sensibility that he himself ties to an Afro-Appalachian approach. Mon Rovîa’s early projects, including the EP Sunburnt (2020) and the album Dark Continent (2021), still blended folk, R&B, hip-hop and trap, before a clearer shift toward acoustic, narrative and stripped-down folk from 2022 onward. That evolution continued with a series of four EPs built around the motif of an initiatory journey: Act 1: The Wandering (2023), Act 2: Trials (2023), Act 3: The Dying of Self (2024) and Act 4: Atonement (2025). Mon Rovîa subsequently made his mark on U.S. folk stages and festivals, with a notable appearance at Bonnaroo in 2024 and a debut at the Grand Ole Opry in 2025, while Bloodline is announced for 2026.
