Axolotes Mexicanos

Born in Asturias around Olaya Pedrayes, her twin brother Juan Pedrayes and Stephen Lyne, Axolotes Mexicanos emerged in 2012 with a sound that blends indie pop, pop punk and edgy electro-pop. Linked to the Elefant Records label from the start, the band combines fast guitars, direct melodies, light keyboards and songwriting that moves from playful tracks to more abrasive pieces. After the EP Infectados in 2013, Axolotes Mexicanos released Holi <3 in 2015, the EP Trececatorce in 2017 and the album Salu2 in 2018. This period also saw a lineup change: Stephen Lyne temporarily left the group, while Mario Del Valle and Lucas de la Iglesia joined in 2018, before Stephen returned in 2020. Now a quintet, Axolotes Mexicanos continued with the EP Uwu in 2020 and the albums :3 in 2021 and 4ever in 2024. On 4ever the band leans further into its punk side while retaining a taste for pop choruses, including a collaboration with Aiko el grupo. Axolotes Mexicanos thus sits within the Spanish indie scene with a repertoire that oscillates between pop immediacy and rock tension.
