yung kai
From Burnaby, Canada, to Shanghai, Yung Kai’s path—born Max Zhang—unfolds between two cultures that nourish his songwriting. A Chinese‑Canadian musician, he learned drums, piano, and guitar as a child under the guidance of his older brother, then began producing instrumentals in 2018 before turning to singing. Starting in 2022, Yung Kai posted short‑form covers on TikTok, a step that gradually led him to compose and collaborate, notably with Bbno$. His world blends intimate pop with R&B influences, shaped by a bedroom‑music aesthetic focused on vocals and understated arrangements, and informed by stated inspirations such as Laufey, Keshi, Higher Brothers, Wave to Earth, and rappers like Juice Wrld, XXXTentacion, and Young Thug. In 2024, Yung Kai reached an international audience with the single “Blue,” widely shared on TikTok, Instagram, and other social platforms. In 2025, he further solidified his live and touring presence, with a slot at the Wanderland Festival in the Philippines, a “Blue” remix duet with Minnie, and the announcement of the Flower Moon and Star Tour across Asia, North America, and Europe. He subsequently released his debut studio album, “Stay with the Ocean, I’ll Find You,” on September 26, 2025.
