Ankor

Based in Tarragona, Catalonia, Ankor took shape in the early 2000s around guitarist and composer David Romeu, initially pursuing melodic metal before shifting toward a modern metal sound that blends metalcore, alternative rock, and pop influences. After several demos and EPs, Ankor released its first Spanish-language full-length, 'Al fin descansar,' in 2008, then honed its English-language writing on 'My Own Angel' (2011) and 'Last Song for Venus' (2013), marked by more progressive structures, a taste for contrasts between clean vocals and harsher passages, and a pronounced melodic sensibility. The arrival of British vocalist Jessie Williams in the mid-2010s ushered in a new phase for Ankor, crystallized on 'Beyond the Silence of These Years' (2017), a record where pop-leaning choruses, metalcore riffs, and electronic touches converge. Active on the Spanish and European scenes, Ankor has built its profile through club tours, regular appearances at rock and metal festivals, and a series of music videos and online covers, with lyrics that alternate between English and Spanish and focus primarily on personal relationships, resilience, and the social tensions of everyday life.
