U.S. Girls
Under the name U.S. Girls, Meghan Remy has been developing an experimental pop project since 2007, born between Chicago — where she grew up — and the music scenes of Chicago and later Portland, before settling in Toronto in 2010. Initially built around lo‑fi home recordings, U.S. Girls blends art pop, electronics, sound collage and oblique pop songwriting, with a constant interest in raw textures, off‑kilter rhythms and a very mobile vocal approach. The early records, including Introducing... (2008), Go Grey (2010), U.S. Girls on KRAAK (2011) and Gem (2012), were released on independent labels such as Siltbreeze, KRAAK and FatCat. After joining 4AD, U.S. Girls moved toward broader arrangements on Half Free (2015), then In a Poem Unlimited (2018), Heavy Light (2020) and Bless This Mess (2023), where psychedelic pop, angular soul, mutant disco and more narrative songwriting intersect. Based in Toronto’s scene, Meghan Remy regularly works with local musicians and notably collaborates with Max Turnbull, aka Slim Twig, while making U.S. Girls a variable‑geometry project between solo writing and collective stage incarnation.
