Du Blonde
In Newcastle upon Tyne, Beth Jeans Houghton began writing as a teenager and first came to prominence in the late 2000s under her own name, releasing an initial EP in 2008, Hot Toast Vol. 1 in 2009, and the album Yours Truly, Cellophane Nose in 2012 with The Hooves of Destiny. From 2014 onward, Du Blonde became the main vehicle for a more upfront repertoire that mixes psychedelic rock, garage rock, punk rock, pop, blues and soul in more direct formats. Welcome Back to Milk was released in 2015, recorded between London and Los Angeles with Jim Sclavunos, and Lung Bread for Daddy in 2019 marked the start of records produced by Du Blonde. This evolution continued with Homecoming in 2021, which features contributions from Shirley Manson and Ezra Furman, and Sniff More Gritty in 2024. Alongside music, Du Blonde works in illustration, animation and video directing, creating clips for Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ezra Furman and LUMP. Du Blonde also established herself on the British and European stages from the outset, with a sound centered on gritty guitars, pop melodies and an often ironic tone.
