Hamish Hawk
Born in Edinburgh in 1991, Hamish Hawk has since the early 2010s developed a writing style that sits between indie pop, chamber pop and post-punk, with a marked taste for taut melodies, elegant arrangements and lyrics with highly crafted phrasing. Initially active under the name Hamish James Hawk, he released the EP Moon Out West in 2012 and then the album Aznavour in 2014, accompanied in his early days by the Scottish musician King Creosote, who helped him launch his first releases. Around 2015, Hamish Hawk formed a live band, first billed as Hamish Hawk & the New Outfit, with which he refined a broader sound and released From Zero to One in 2018, followed by the EP Laziest River in 2019. Set in a collective format while keeping Hamish Hawk at the center of the writing, the project took on a new dimension with Heavy Elevator in 2021 and then Angel Numbers in 2023, two records produced by Rod Jones of Idlewild. His third album under that name, A Firmer Hand, appears in 2024. On stage, Hamish Hawk has toured the UK and Europe, shared bills with acts like Idlewild, Franz Ferdinand, Villagers, Elbow or Travis, and played at South by Southwest. Hamish Hawk's music blends band energy, indie pop, new wave tension and songwriter storytelling, propelled by a baritone voice and a very present narrative approach.
