Info
On 5 October 2026 at Blue Note London, Baaba Maal brings his long-running, shape-shifting sound to the stage. Rooted in the cultural heritage of northern Senegal’s Fouta region and often carried by Pulaar lyrics, his music moves naturally between Sahel traditions and West African folk, then opens out into pop, reggae and soul, switching from stripped-back acoustic moments to fuller electric arrangements.
Across decades and landmark records, Maal has kept his voice at the center: a storyteller’s instrument, as much about rhythm and phrasing as melody. In recent years, he’s pushed further into wider musical traffic, weaving Senegalese grooves with Afro-pop energy and touches of rock, rap and electronic textures. Expect a set that can pivot from intimate songs to dance-ready pulses, always driven by that clear, direct vocal presence that ties everything back to place.
