Låpsley

Born in York and raised in Southport, Merseyside, Låpsley — real name Holly Lapsley Fletcher — first developed her practice in local bands before launching a solo project in the early 2010s with tracks recorded at home. She occupies a space between art pop, ambient pop, alternative R&B and electropop, with intimate songwriting, sparse arrangements and a voice frequently placed at the centre of slow, restrained compositions. After the EPs Monday (2014) and Understudy (2015), her debut album Long Way Home was released in 2016, at the same time her name was circulating on BBC Introducing stages and on the longlist for the BBC’s Sound of 2015. With Through Water (2020) Låpsley broadened her palette toward more atmospheric textures, and on Cautionary Tales of Youth (2023) she evolved her sound to include more garage and house elements and formats suited to a band. This trajectory continued with the EP A Guilty Heart Can Never Rest (2024) and the album I’m a Hurricane I’m a Woman in Love (2025), released on her own imprint, confirming her move toward a more independent mode of operation.
