RY X
Born on Woodford Island, Australia, Ry Cuming began his career releasing music under his own name before adopting the alias RY X in the early 2010s. His work sits between indie folk, alt-pop and indietronica, often in a stripped-down format that combines acoustic guitar, subtle electronic textures and a soft, almost suspended vocal. After his debut album Ry Cuming (2010), RY X took a new direction with the Berlin EP (2013), which marked his international emergence and established a more minimalist songwriting approach. He continued with the albums Dawn (2016), Unfurl (2019) and Blood Moon (2022). Alongside his solo work he formed the trio The Acid with Adam Freeland and Steve Nalepa, active in an electronic and experimental vein, and the project Howling with Frank Wiedemann, at the crossroads of melodic house and atmospheric song. Over the years RY X has also collaborated with artists such as Ólafur Arnalds, Diplo, ODESZA and Black Coffee, and developed a stage practice spanning festivals and orchestral formats with the London Contemporary Orchestra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
