How do we cope with the simple fact of being here in the world, and with all that it entails: the surprises, the jolts, the otherness we must contend with, for better or for worse? This is the thread Bertrand Belin pulls on his seventh album, a record that extends his distinctive trajectory: a hybrid French-language pop, free in form, attentive to the rhythm of words, carried by this deep voice that is instantly recognizable. Since his first album in 2005, Belin has advanced without bending to conventions, between literary song, soft rock, and more narrative bursts. On stage, this freedom translates into gentle tension, clear imagery, and presence without unnecessary effects.
