On 8 September 2026 at 6:00 pm at The 1865, Allegaeon, Gorod and Abysmal Dawn perform.

For technical death metal band Allegaeon, sitting still is not an option. The Colorado-based group has never allowed itself to stagnate, preferring to thrive on chaos, change and evolution. Their latest full-length offering, The Ossuary Lens, is their seventh, and it’s the first with original vocalist Ezra Haynes since his 2015 departure following the Elements of the Infinite album. Replacing a singer is no easy task, so Haynes’ return marks a shift for the band.
The cleaner vocal approach on the last three albums was an artistic move that refreshed Allegaeon, but it’s notable to hear Haynes’ graveled vocals back in the fold on this technical work. The science-based lyrics are as challenging as the progressive musicianship. It’s a sound that Haynes refers to as “melotech” (melodic, technical death metal).
“I think in the beginning we were a little more stripped down,” adds Burgess. “Very guitar-forward, focused melodeath. Over time, I think more technical, symphonic and progressive elements crept in. Finally, where we are today is all of that combined, added with more ambient elements.” While not a concept album in the traditional sense, there is an overarching theme to the new album – The Ossuary Lens is a representation of several different viewpoints of death.
As has been the case with much of the Allegaeon catalog to date, “We touched on some classic Allegaeon science-related topics, such as chaos theory and dark matter, while also strumming the chords of more introspective topics such as alcoholism, relationships, perseverance, etc,” says Haynes.
The Ossuary Lens was recorded with producer Dave Otero at Flatline Audio studio in Denver, CO.
“We have worked with Dave Otero at Flatline Audio since the beginning of our career,” adds Burgess. “So 17 years now. Dave always provides a comfortable working environment, ideas, and a career-spanning understanding of what has made Allegaeon, Allegaeon.”
The Ossuary Lens shows a rejuvenated band.

In 2022, Gorod celebrated its 25th anniversary and is known as a band of the tech-death scene in France. Coming from Bordeaux, their world recognition began in the USA and kept growing thanks to tours throughout Europe, North America, Japan and Southeast Asia. With six albums and two studio EPs, the band returned with a new album, The Orb, released in March 2023. Gorod’s comeback started with the song Victory, released as a video in late February 2022 and reaching over 50k views in less than a week. It is a short and direct piece suited for stage performance. Far from being just a band playing classic technical death metal, Gorod tends to diversify its inspirations. With a groove mingled with melodies and rich harmonies coming out of 70s jazz, funk and rock, their progressive and sophisticated approach gives them a distinct identity. Gorod’s art is fully expressed on stage thanks to their energy and tight live performances, and their recent productions offer an approach that is both aggressive and complex.

In 2020, Abysmal Dawn released the album Phylogenesis. In 2022, the technical death metal band picked up where they left off and released the four-song Nightmare Frontier. The EP includes an original track, a newly re-recorded version of the 2006 demo Blacken the Sky, and two cover songs that showcase the band’s versatility.
