Abysmal Dawn

Active since 2003 in Los Angeles, Abysmal Dawn formed around guitarist and vocalist Charles Elliott, who has remained the only constant member through numerous personnel changes. The band operates in a dense, methodical American death metal style, blending speed, heaviness and more technical constructions while retaining a direct and aggressive register. After a demo released in 2004, Abysmal Dawn earned a place on the American underground metal circuit and quickly shared bills with acts such as Exodus, Hate Eternal, Six Feet Under and Decapitated. Their studio discography includes From Ashes (2006), Programmed to Consume (2008) — their first album issued on Relapse — Leveling the Plane of Existence (2011), Obsolescence (2014) and Phylogenesis (2020), followed by the EP Nightmare Frontier in 2022. Across these releases, Abysmal Dawn has maintained a dark, compact songwriting approach driven by Elliott’s guitar work and a tight rhythm section. The current line-up features Charles Elliott with Eliseo Garcia on bass, James Coppolino on drums and Vito Petroni on guitar.
