Hothouse Flowers

Hothouse Flowers bring their blend of rock, folk and soul to O2 Institute Birmingham on 9 November 2026. Formed busking on the streets of Dublin in 1985 around Liam Ó Maonlaí and Fiachna Ó Braonáin, soon joined by Peter O’Toole, the band shaped a sound where alternative and folk rock meet Celtic colours, with touches of gospel and Irish traditional music. That mix runs through a catalogue that starts with People (1988) and Home (1990), continues with Songs from the Rain (1993) and Born (1998), then Into Your Heart (2004) and Let’s Do This Thing (2016).

On stage, Ó Maonlaí’s voice and piano s’installent au centre, portés par des harmonies serrées, des guitares et des rythmes qui passent de ballades feutrées à des sections plus amples et percussives. Leur parcours live les a menés de Reading à Glastonbury, et depuis la reformation le noyau réunit Ó Maonlaí, Ó Braonáin, Dave Clarke, Martin Brunsden et le retour de Peter O’Toole. À Birmingham, ils piochent dans les premières années comme dans les titres plus récents, et laissent de la place à l’élan improvisé qui accompagne le groupe depuis ses débuts dans la rue.
