Squeeze

Squeeze is a pillar of the British new wave, formed in London in 1974 around the songwriting duo Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook. Often likened to Lennon and McCartney for their writing partnership, they established a sound that combines punchy pop, melodic sophistication and finely wrought lyrics about everyday English life. The band rose to prominence in the late 1970s with cult hits such as Take Me I’m Yours, Cool for Cats and Up the Junction, which showcased their unique blend of pop, new wave and quintessentially British humour. The 1980s brought landmark albums like East Side Story and Sweets from a Stranger, followed by an initial split and several reunions over the decades. Despite lineup changes, Difford and Tilbrook have remained the creative core of Squeeze. Very active on tour, the band has kept a strong bond with its audience and continues to release new material—most recently on Cradle to the Grave and The Knowledge—underscoring how timeless their refined, narrative pop remains.
