Info
On 14 November 2026 at Electric Bristol, The Undertones celebrate 50 years of songs that fuse punk bite with pop clarity. Formed in Derry in the mid-70s, they made their name on short, direct tracks, riffs that stick and lyrics drawn from everyday teenage life. The run of albums from the self-titled debut in 1979 and Hypnotised in 1980 to Positive Touch in 1981 and The Sin of Pride in 1983 shows a move from raw urgency to more crafted pop and soul touches, before a split the same year. Reformed in the late 90s with Paul McLoone on vocals alongside the original rhythm section and guitar tandem, they picked up the thread on stage and on record with Get What You Need in 2003 and Dig Yourself Deep in 2007, staying true to concise, melodic, rhythm-forward songwriting at the crossroads of punk rock, garage and power pop.
Special guest Jim Bob opens the night. Known first from Jamie Wednesday and then Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine, the London songwriter has built a solo catalogue since the 2000s that shifts between acoustic songs, indie rock and melodic punk, always anchored by plain-spoken storytelling and everyday detail. From Goodnight Jim Bob through Pop Up Jim Bob, Who Do We Hate Today and Thanks for Reaching Out, his set distills sharp hooks and observant lyrics into lean, memorable tunes.
