The Rezillos
Formed in Edinburgh in 1976 out of the milieu of the Edinburgh College of Art, The Rezillos crafted a bright, melodic blend of punk rock and new wave, threaded through with 1950s rock’n’roll, 1960s British beat, garage rock and glam, and marked by a fondness for science fiction and B-movie imagery. Led by vocal duo Eugene Reynolds and Fay Fife, they drew attention with early singles such as I Can’t Stand My Baby (1977) and (My Baby Does) Good Sculptures (1977), before releasing the album Can’t Stand the Rezillos in 1978. That first phase was brief: after the single Top of the Pops (1978) and the live release Mission Accomplished... But the Beat Goes On (1979), The Rezillos split, with Reynolds and Fife continuing the aesthetic under the name The Revillos. The band revived the Rezillos name in the early 2000s for a Hogmanay reunion in Edinburgh in 2001 and subsequently resumed regular live activity with several lineup changes. They continued to release new material over the years and returned to the studio with Zero in 2015, retaining their distinctive mix of punk energy, concise pop songwriting and a retro‑futuristic world.
