Info

On May 11, 2026, The Starlite Room in Edmonton hosts Crowbar with Mares of Thrace and Pure Love Eternal Peace, a bill rooted in sludge, doom and noise-soaked heaviness.

Crowbar, forged in New Orleans around singer-guitarist Kirk Windstein, carries a slow, downtuned pulse where massive riffs, gravelled vocals and bleak atmospheres lock into a stubborn groove. From early statements to recent chapters like Zero and Below, their writing leans on crawl-and-surge dynamics and introspective weight, balancing crush and melody without haste.

Mares of Thrace comes as a stripped-back duo from Calgary: Thérèse Lanz on low-slung guitar and voice, Stefani MacKichan on drums. Their songs hinge on repetition, sharp percussive swings and harsh chants, shifting between dense slabs and bare, tense breaks. The Moulting, The Pilgrimage and The Exile sketched that arc; on stage it turns into a focused, physical exchange.

Opening the night, Pure Love Eternal Peace steers into death-psych-doom currents, weaving slow-motion riffs, cavernous textures and a hazy, ritual drive. A patient build, a hit of feedback, and the tone settles in heavy and hypnotic.
