Behind the project Restricted is Rhys Sfyrios, an Australian producer and DJ based in Melbourne, who emerged in the late 2010s with a series of edits and bootlegs released online. Working at the intersection of tech house, bass house and UK garage influences, he developed a sound built around repetitive basslines, pitched vocals and club-focused arrangements. His first maxi releases appeared on labels oriented toward digital dance music, alongside a regular presence on SoundCloud and streaming platforms where he shared unofficial remixes, alternate versions and original tracks. From the early 2020s, Restricted increased his club and festival dates, first in Australia and then in Europe and North America, joining a generation of producers for whom the rapid circulation of tracks on social networks is central. His sets blend his own productions with contemporary house and tech house selections, with attention to quick transitions and rhythmic buildups suited to large sound systems.
