Southall

Around singer-songwriter Read Southall, the band Southall is part of the country-rock scene in Stillwater, Oklahoma, with a sound that blends red dirt, southern rock and folk-tinged ballads. Born from a solo project started with the album "Six String Sorrow" in 2015, Read Southall gradually assembled a band that initially performed as the Read Southall Band on the Texas and Oklahoma live circuit. Southall developed a repertoire of electric-guitar-driven songs, pronounced rhythms and lyrics rooted in rural life, which took shape on "Borrowed Time" (2017) and "Live at Tower Theatre" (2018), recorded in Oklahoma City. The albums "Smokin’ Wings & Broken Things" (2020) and "For The Birds" (2021) continue this aesthetic between alternative rock, country and 1970s influences. Renamed simply Southall, the group released the 2023 album "Southall", a milestone that introduces more psychedelic colors and denser arrangements while retaining Read Southall’s direct songwriting and the roots anchoring that have defined the project since its beginnings.
