Slow Crush

Formed in Belgium in the mid-2010s, Slow Crush crafts a dark strain of shoegaze where dream pop, grunge overtones, and post-rock touches intersect. Centered around vocalist and bassist Isa Holliday, the band hones a sound defined by overdriven, hazy guitars, clear melodic lines, and soft vocals often drenched in reverb. After an initial breakthrough with the EP Ease in 2017, Slow Crush released the album Aurora in 2018, which firmly established the quartet on the international independent scene and opened the door to tours across Europe and then North America. Slow Crush’s compositions lean on slow-to-mid tempos, a hefty rhythm section, and melancholic atmospheres that place the band as much in the 1990s shoegaze tradition as alongside heavier outfits from the post-hardcore and post-metal scenes. In 2021, Slow Crush pursued this approach with the album Hush, sharpening the contrasts between sonic density and pared-down melodies, confirming an aesthetic focused on texture, repetition, and sonic immersion.
