Josh Rouse
Born in Oshkosh, Nebraska, in 1972, and after living in several states before settling in Tennessee, Josh Rouse developed in the late 1990s a songwriter’s sensibility nourished by folk, indie pop, Americana and alt-country. Based first in Nashville, he launches his discography with Dressed Up Like Nebraska in 1998, then follows with Home in 2000, Under Cold Blue Stars in 2002, 1972 in 2003 and Nashville in 2005, albums that refine a melodic, hushed and direct style, carried by understated arrangements and a marked fondness for 1970s American pop. Over the years, Josh Rouse tours in independent rock and folk circuits and notably collaborates with Kurt Wagner on the Chester EP in 1999. After relocating to Spain in the mid-2000s, his music opens up to Mediterranean and Latin colors, perceptible on Subtítulo in 2006, Country Mouse City House in 2007 and El Turista in 2010, where Spanish-language songs also appear. Josh Rouse also formed the duo She’s Spanish, I’m American with Paz Suay, and since then has pursued a steady trajectory between songwriter pop, soft rock and folk, notably The Happiness Waltz in 2013, The Embers of Time in 2015, Love in the Modern Age in 2018, The Holiday Sounds of Josh Rouse in 2019 and Going Places in 2022.
