Cat Power

Cat Power, born Chan Marshall, is an American singer, songwriter and musician from Atlanta, and a major figure on the indie folk and rock scene since the 1990s. With a distinctive voice that is at once fragile and magnetic, she has over the years built a body of work of rare emotional intensity, moving between spare acoustic arrangements and more electric explorations. She rose to prominence with albums such as Moon Pix, You Are Free and The Greatest, and stands out for intimate songwriting marked by melancholy and raw sincerity. An elusive artist, she moves freely between folk, soul, blues and rock without confining herself to a single genre. Alongside her original material she regularly reinterprets other artists’ repertoires with a unique sensitivity, notably on cover albums that reinvent Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones. On stage Cat Power retains that skin‑deep intensity—contained power and embraced fragility—claiming a distinctive place in American independent music.
