Yamê
Between soul, rap and R&B, Yamê develops a hybrid sound driven by a strong vocal presence and French-language songwriting informed by Afro-diasporic influences. The Franco-Cameroonian artist based in France emerged in the early 2020s with a series of tracks released online that established a world mixing soul melodies, hip-hop-adjacent rhythms and restrained electronic atmospheres. His COLORS session for the track “Bécane” in 2023 drew attention to this blend of nuanced singing, rapped passages and timbral shifts ranging from low spoken tones to falsetto. In the studio, his songs often rely on piano and harmonies borrowed from soul and gospel, crossing percussive basses with more electronic sonic details, and occasionally using English in choruses or ad-libs. On stage, Yamê performs in intimate setups or with musicians, reworking his songs into longer versions centered on live interpretation. His successive EPs and singles place him in a generation of artists who move between the francophone rap scene, contemporary R&B and Afro influences, favoring short formats and a gradual evolution of their repertoire rather than a discography structured around albums.
