Jewel Usain
From Argenteuil in the Paris suburbs, Jewel Usain has been building a career since the mid-2010s rooted in French rap, with writing that pays close attention to everyday life, social relationships and the passage into adulthood. Initially supported by lyric-focused tracks and soul-tinged productions, Jewel Usain gradually widened his palette toward a more melodic approach, where rap coexists with R&B, neo-soul and gospel harmonies. The project Mode Difficile, released in 2021, marks a turning point by addressing the fatigue of salaried work and the desire to break away with an introspective tone. This evolution continues into a broader format, developed notably with composer Rémy Beseau, who helps shape a more arranged sound without sacrificing the precision of the narrative. Collaborations with Prince Waly, Tuerie and HEDGES fit within this continuity. Jewel Usain’s music rests on measured delivery, a clear sense of storytelling and a balance between observational rap and sung influences.
