Daði Freyr

Born in Reykjavík in 1992, Daði Freyr Pétursson grew up initially in Denmark before returning to Iceland and moving to Berlin in 2014 to study sound production and music management. Daði Freyr creates melodic electronic pop that blends synth-pop, disco-pop and funk with retro textures, characterized by direct songwriting often tinged with humour. Before his solo career he co-founded the band RetRoBot, winners of the Icelandic competition Músíktilraunir in 2012, which released the album Blackout in 2013. Under his own name he released the EP Næsta skref in 2017 and the album & Co. in 2019. His international profile accelerated with Daði & Gagnamagnið, the stage collective formed initially for Söngvakeppnin and with “Think About Things,” the song selected for Eurovision 2020 before the contest was cancelled; Daði Freyr ultimately represented Iceland in 2021 with “10 Years.” Since then he has toured Europe and the United States, released the EP Welcome in 2021 and the album I Made an Album in 2023, and continues to pursue a danceable electropop repertoire built around clear synth lines, supple rhythms and a strong sense of melody.
