Victor Solf
Born in Düsseldorf in 1990, Victor Solf grew up between Paris and Rennes, where he trained in piano, choral singing and improvisation before attending the conservatory and joining the Rennes band The Popopopops. His trajectory took a new turn in 2015 with Her, a duo he founded with Simon Carpentier that blended soul, pop and contemporary R&B with melodic writing rooted in blues and gospel. After the EPs Her Tape #1 (2016) and Her Tape #2 (2017), the album Her was released in 2018, at a time when the project was marked by Simon Carpentier’s death in 2017; Victor Solf nonetheless kept the band’s concerts going until its end in 2019. As a solo artist he continued that soul foundation in a more personal format with the EP Aftermath (2020), the 12 Monkeys Mixtape the same year, and the album Still. There’s Hope (2021), sung in English and focused on restrained, introspective pop-soul. His path also includes several collaborations, notably with Georgio, Ivan Dorn and Zefire. With Tout peut durer (2025), Victor Solf shifted his songwriting toward French and tightened his music so that song, soul and pared-down arrangements occupy a central place.
