Caterina Barbieri

Born in Bologna in 1990, Caterina Barbieri has been developing an electronic music practice since the mid-2010s that sits at the crossroads of minimalism, drone, ambient and contemporary composition. Trained in electroacoustics, the Italian musician constructs extended pieces built on repetition, rhythmic displacements and melodic motifs that gradually transform, with a marked attention to perception, resonance and trance states. After Vertical (2014), she broadened her visibility on European experimental scenes with Patterns of Consciousness (2017) and Ecstatic Computation (2019), two albums that clarify a writing style both rigorous and immersive. Her discography also includes Fantas Variations (2019) and Spirit Exit (2022), in which the voice takes a more prominent place without departing from her taste for cyclic structures and slow harmonic progressions. Present on stages such as Berlin Atonal, Unsound and Rewire, she positions her work between concert performance, contemporary art and forms composed for other presentation contexts.
