Valentina Magaletti

Born in Bari, Italy and based in London, Valentina Magaletti has developed since the 2010s a transversal career spanning drums, percussion, composition and improvisation. Trained from a young age, she moves between experimental music, post-punk, abstract electronics, dub and psychedelic pop, with a playing style that prioritizes texture, pulse and rhythmic displacement as much as impact. Valentina Magaletti first established herself on the London underground scene as one half of the duo Tomaga with Tom Relleen, before expanding into numerous collective projects and performance contexts, notably with Moin, Holy Tongue, Vanishing Twin and V/Z. This group work has been accompanied by many collaborations with artists from experimental rock, improvisation and electronic music, including Thurston Moore, Mica Levi, Nicolas Jaar and Charles Hayward. At the same time, Valentina Magaletti pursues a solo discography that emphasizes sonic research and the physicality of rhythm, notably A Queer Anthology of Drums (2020), La Tempesta Colorata (2022) and Batterie Fragile (2022). She therefore operates on stages where performance, open composition and hybrid forms intersect, in an approach that blurs the boundaries between accompaniment, composition and experimentation.
