Kali Malone

Born in 1994 in Colorado and raised in Denver, Kali Malone moved to Stockholm in 2012 after a period in Massachusetts, and studied electroacoustic composition at the Royal College of Music there. Her work sits between drone, minimalism and electroacoustic music, with the pipe organ, sustained drones and precise tuning systems at its core, often developed in slow, repetitive forms. Active since the mid-2010s, Malone co‑founded the label and concert series XKatedral in Stockholm in 2016 with Maria W Horn, operating close to the Nordic experimental scenes and contemporary music. After the albums Velocity of Sleep (2017) and Cast of Mind (2018), she broadened her audience with The Sacrificial Code (2019), an organ cycle that established several hallmarks of her writing. Living Torch (2022), composed for the GRM in Paris, shifts this approach toward a more overtly electroacoustic material, while Does Spring Hide Its Joy (2023), recorded with Stephen O’Malley and Lucy Railton, develops a long form based on variations of timbre and resonance. In 2024, All Life Long continues this inquiry in a register where organ, voices and sustained textures occupy a central place.
