Pi Ja Ma
Between pop songcraft and an illustration aesthetic, Pi Ja Ma develops a project where music is constantly in dialogue with the image. Behind this stage name is Pauline de Tarragon, a French artist who emerged in the mid-2010s — first through a TV talent show, then via a series of indie-pop singles in English and French. As a singer-songwriter, she builds songs with clear melodies, often carried by moderate tempos, light arrangements and vocal harmonies that leave words a central place, balancing subtle whimsy with observations of everyday life. In studio and on stage, Pi Ja Ma rests on a long-term collaboration with musician and producer Axel Concato; the duo shapes a sonic world somewhere between bedroom pop, dream pop and chanson française. The release of the album “Nice To Meet U” in 2019 provided a first synthesis of this work, alternating stripped-down ballads and more rhythmic tracks. Alongside her musical trajectory, Pauline de Tarragon develops illustration and ceramics practices that feed Pi Ja Ma’s visual identity — visible on covers, in videos and concert scenography — and accompany her tours in venues and festivals across France and Europe.
