Vildhjarta

Formed in Hudiksvall, Sweden, Vildhjarta is part of the Scandinavian progressive metal and djent scene, distinguished by a marked taste for dark, fragmented atmospheres. From the late 2000s the band developed a very staccato rhythmic language, heavily down-tuned guitars and polyrhythmic motifs — a style often referred to as “thall” by Vildhjarta, who link it to almost cinematic ambiances. After early demos, the release of the album Måsstaden in 2011 on Century Media established Vildhjarta in a vein where technical metal, atmospheric passages and conceptual storytelling intersect. The 2013 EP Thousands of Evils refined this blend of controlled brutality, pronounced silences and more melodic textures. Long absent from the studio, Vildhjarta returned in 2021 with Måsstaden under vatten, a denser, more stretched continuation of their universe, where tempo changes, layered screamed vocals and slow instrumental passages maintain constant tension. Functioning as a collective centered on its guitarists and composers, with a stable core surrounded by musicians and vocalists who have come and gone over the years, Vildhjarta performs mainly on stages specialized in progressive metal across Europe and North America, and remains associated with a highly constructed, narrative approach to modern djent.
