Warpaint

Formed in Los Angeles in 2004, Warpaint coalesced around a quartet comprising Emily Kokal, Theresa Wayman, Jenny Lee Lindberg and, since 2009, Stella Mozgawa. The band develops a songwriting situated between indie rock, dream pop, art rock and psychedelic rock, featuring tracks often with supple tempos, interlocking guitars, a prominent bass and vocal lines that answer one another rather than push forward. After a first noteworthy EP at the end of the 2000s, the group reached a new scale with The Fool in 2010, then honed its approach on Warpaint (2014), Heads Up (2016) and Radiate Like This (2022). Across these records Warpaint moved its sound toward a more stripped-back and sometimes more rhythmic form, while retaining the tension between gauzy melody, discreet groove and dark textures. Warpaint's trajectory also includes a steady presence on American and European stages, touring alongside acts such as The xx and Depeche Mode, while its members pursue side projects that extend the band's open, shifting identity.
