Formed in Minneapolis in 2011, Poliça features singer and keyboardist Channy Leaneagh, bassist Chris Bierden and drummers Drew Christopherson and Ben Ivascu, with Ryan Olson serving as producer and studio member. Rooted in a dark electronic pop that blends synth-pop, alternative R&B and indietronica, Poliça relies on a dual-drum rhythm section and heavily processed vocals, giving its songs a simultaneously melodic and percussive depth. Leaneagh, who came from the local folk scene, found a new direction with Poliça after the Roma di Luna project and collaborations within Ryan Olson’s Gayngs collective. The debut album Give You the Ghost (2012), followed by Shulamith (2013) and United Crushers (2016), were released on Mom + Pop Music and established the band across American and European stages, from clubs to festivals. In 2018 Poliça teamed up with Berlin orchestral collective Stargaze for Music For the Long Emergency, which explored a more expansive compositional approach. When We Stay Alive (2020) and Madness (2022), released on Memphis Industries, continued this experimental pop focused on vocal and rhythmic textures. Announced for October 2025, the seventh album Dreams Go marks a new step in Poliça’s trajectory; the band remains active on international tours.
