Tomas Andersson Wij

Born in Stockholm in 1972 and raised in the southern districts of the Swedish capital, Tomas Andersson Wij has, since the late 1990s, developed a songwriting approach that sits between singer‑songwriter, folk‑pop and authorial rock. In a restrained form, guitar, ballads and a strong emphasis on lyrics occupy a central place. After beginning his career in cultural journalism and television, he launched his recording career with Ebeneser in 1998 and further established himself with Ett slag för dig in 2000. His discography then followed a steady trajectory: Vi är värda så mycket mer (2002), Stjärnorna i oss (2004), En sommar på speed (2008), Romantiken (2012), Mörkrets hastighet (2014), Avsändare okänd (2018), Högre än händerna når (2020), Åskan i Hjärtat (2022) and Sorgsna sånger gör mig glad (2024). Tomas Andersson Wij operates within the Swedish song tradition with arrangements that blend intimate folk, melodic pop and touches of rock, and he has also written for other performers, notably Bo Kaspers Orkester, Peter Jöback, Freddie Wadling, Caroline af Ugglas and Helen Sjöholm. His stage work includes regular touring and gained wider visibility in Sweden through his participation in the television programme Så mycket bättre in 2017.
