Weeping Willows
Formed in Sweden in 1995 around Magnus Carlson, Ola Nyström, Stefan Axelsen, Anders Hernestam, Thomas Sundgren and Mats Hedén, Weeping Willows emerged from a period of covers influenced by country, rockabilly and 1950s–60s pop before turning to original material. The Swedish band quickly established a melancholic pop-rock identity, driven by Carlson’s voice, bright guitars, often restrained tempos and string or brass arrangements that recall both orchestrated ballads and soul as well as certain strands of 1960s rock. On record they set this framework with Broken Promise Land (1997), produced by Pål Svenre, and then developed it on Endless Night (1999) and Into the Light (2001), where the songwriting took on more modern pop and rock shades. Presence (2004) and Fear & Love (2007) continued this trajectory before a recording hiatus, followed by The Time Has Come (2014), Tomorrow Became Today (2016), After Us (2019), The Dreams We Weave (2022) and Goodwill (2025). Over the years, Weeping Willows has refocused around Magnus Carlson, Ola Nyström, Niko Röhlcke and Anders Hernestam.
