Thijs Boontjes

Born in Schagen, in the north of the Netherlands, Thijs Boontjes has since the mid-2010s developed a Dutch-language repertoire carried by the Thijs Boontjes Dans- en Showorkest, a formation built around his voice and keyboards. His universe blends pop, chanson, rock and danceable variety, with a marked taste for direct arrangements, chorally sung refrains and an aesthetic that borrows as much from the popular bal as from the tradition of the Dutch song. Before this project, Thijs Boontjes played in King Jack between 2006 and 2012, held the keyboards in Anouk's band until 2009, then also accompanied Douwe Bob until 2019, which sheds light on his path between the rock stage, accompaniment and personal songwriting. The project takes shape with a self-titled first EP in 2015, then a series of albums gradually establishing his identity, from Geen Achttien Meer in 2019 to Ambiance in 2021, Als Emmie Danst in 2022, Vanavond and Vrouw van de Dominee in 2023, then Dancing Boontjes in 2024. Thijs Boontjes has also released several singles, among which Alleen naar de kermis, Dansen met jou, Thermopane and Deze nacht, while regularly appearing in radio contexts and on Dutch stages where his repertoire alternates group energy and a sense of melody.
