This Will Destroy You

Formed in the mid-2000s in San Marcos, Texas, This Will Destroy You is part of the American instrumental post-rock current, developing a broad sound that blends saturated guitars, ambient atmospheres and drone-like layers. Founded in 2004 around guitarists Jeremy Galindo and Christopher Royal King, the band first drew attention with the EP Young Mountain (2005), initially self-released and later reissued, and with the album This Will Destroy You (2008), which established a songwriting approach based on long tension-building crescendos, contrasting dynamics and an almost complete absence of vocals. Later released on the Magic Bullet and Suicide Squeeze labels, This Will Destroy You emphasized darker textures and stretched-out pieces on Tunnel Blanket (2011), explored a more melodic and layered side on Another Language (2014), and split its work into two complementary parts with New Others Part One and New Others Part Two (2018). Regularly present on independent stages in the US and Europe, the band tours clubs and festivals oriented toward post-rock, experimental music and atmospheric metal, while its instrumental compositions are frequently used in films, series and trailers, placing This Will Destroy You’s music in an ongoing dialogue between rock culture, ambient music and cinematic uses of sound.
