Caspian

Formed in 2003 in Beverly, Massachusetts, Caspian develops an instrumental post‑rock sound built on textures, slow progressions, tension build‑ups and melodic work carried by multiple guitars. Initially active on the northeastern US indie scene, the band attracted notice early on, notably by playing dates with Mono, before releasing the EP You Are the Conductor in 2005 and their first album, The Four Trees, in 2007. With Tertia (2009) and Waking Season (2012) Caspian broadened their songwriting, balancing airy compositions with denser passages and influences that cross post‑rock, ambient and progressive rock. The death of bassist Chris Friedrich in 2013 marked an important moment in the band's history, even as they continued that year with the EP Hymn for the Greatest Generation. Dust and Disquiet (2015) introduced a more prominent role for vocals without breaking the project's instrumental identity, while On Circles (2020) extended that evolution in a more direct and contrasting form. Over the years Caspian has toured extensively across the United States, Europe and Asia, performing on post‑rock stages as well as in indie and metal circuits, maintaining a band‑centred approach focused on live performance and long‑form compositions.
