Doves
Formed in Wilmslow, Cheshire, Doves bring together Jimi Goodwin and twin brothers Jez and Andy Williams, an English trio that around the turn of the 1990s moved from the electronic sound of Sub Sub to a more rock-oriented songwriting approach, blending indie rock, post-Britpop and pop rock with touches of space rock. That shift took shape after their studio burned down in 1996, an episode that preceded the birth of Doves in 1998 and the first EPs released before the album Lost Souls in 2000. With The Last Broadcast (2002), Some Cities (2005) and Kingdom of Rust (2009), Doves honed a spacious, melodic sound marked by atmospheric guitars, supple rhythms and alternating vocals that strongly contribute to their identity. After a hiatus beginning in 2010, Jimi Goodwin released Odludek in 2014 while Jez and Andy Williams launched Black Rivers. Doves resumed activity from 2018, returned to the stage in 2019 and released The Universal Want in 2020. The band went on to release Constellations for the Lonely in 2025. Since resuming concerts, Doves have performed some dates without Jimi Goodwin, with Jez and Andy Williams taking on vocal duties alongside an expanded backing band.
