The Chainsmokers
Formed in New York in 2012 around Alex Pall and Drew Taggart, The Chainsmokers first gained attention with remixes of indie groups before shifting to a sound blending EDM, pop, electropop and future bass. The duo achieved early prominence with “#Selfie” in 2014, then quickly refined their songwriting toward more melodic, sung tracks, with Drew Taggart often contributing vocals. This evolution is evident on the EPs Bouquet (2015) and Collage (2016) and on the albums Memories...Do Not Open (2017), Sick Boy (2018), World War Joy (2019), So Far So Good (2022) and Summertime Friends (2023). Their productions pair pop structures and very direct choruses with smooth electronic textures and influences from indie and hip-hop. The Chainsmokers have also collaborated with artists such as Daya, Halsey, Coldplay, Emily Warren, 5 Seconds of Summer and ILLENIUM, and they moved from EDM clubs and festivals to a more hybrid live format, adding instruments and drums on some tours. Remaining rooted in a dialogue between dance efficiency and pop songwriting, the project continued that thread with the EP No Hard Feelings, released in 2024.
