Static-X
Formed in Los Angeles in 1994 around Wayne Static and drummer Ken Jay, Static‑X sits at the intersection of industrial metal, nu metal and a more mechanical approach to groove, fueled by electronic elements and dry rhythms the band described as "evil disco." The quartet drew attention in the late 1990s with Wisconsin Death Trip (1999), then followed with Machine (2001), Shadow Zone (2003), Start a War (2005), Cannibal (2007) and Cult of Static (2009), while touring the major American metal stages, notably Ozzfest. Across these records, Static‑X retained a foundation of syncopated riffs, martial tempos and more direct choruses, with a noticeable shift toward more melodic writing on Shadow Zone. The band's trajectory is marked by several lineup changes, although Wayne Static long remained its center alongside Tony Campos, Koichi Fukuda and, at times, Ken Jay or Nick Oshiro. After a hiatus, a brief reformation led by Wayne Static and his death in 2014, Static‑X resumed in 2018 with Campos, Fukuda and Jay, accompanied on stage and on record by Xer0. This new phase resulted in Project: Regeneration Vol. 1 (2020) and Project: Regeneration Vol. 2 (2024), partly built from vocal recordings left by Wayne Static.
