Scarlet Pleasure

Formed in the early 2010s in Copenhagen, Danish trio Scarlet Pleasure brings together singer Emil Goll, bassist Alexander Malone and drummer Joachim Dencker around a modern pop sound infused with R&B, soft funk and electronic influences. Scarlet Pleasure first made its mark locally with the EP “Mirage” in 2014, establishing an aesthetic of smooth grooves, catchy choruses and warm atmospheres, before releasing their debut album “Youth Is Wasted on the Young” in 2016, which showed a more developed approach to vocal arrangements and synthetic textures. Through numerous concerts and tours across Scandinavian venues and festivals, Scarlet Pleasure honed a style built on English-language, often mid-tempo songs where rounded bass lines, R&B-inspired rhythms and touches of funk support lyrics centered on relationships, partying and coming of age. The 2019 single “What a Life” opened the band to a wider audience while remaining consistent with their luminous yet melancholic aesthetic, placing the trio in a register of melodic pop rooted in urban and radio-friendly culture.
