Roland Kaiser

Born in West Berlin in 1952, Roland Kaiser has been part of the German schlager tradition since the mid-1970s. His repertoire blends sentimental ballads, mid-tempo songs and more dance-oriented numbers. After starting out as an employee in advertising, he recorded his first singles in 1974 and gained recognition with “Sieben Fässer Wein” in 1977, followed by career-defining songs such as “Santa Maria” (1980), “Ich glaub es geht schon wieder los” (1980), “Dich zu lieben” (1981) and “Joana” (1984). His style relies on straightforward melodies, catchy choruses and lyrics focused on romantic relationships and everyday situations, in a pop-orchestrated aesthetic typical of German-language popular music. Since the 1980s Kaiser has continued touring and recording, with albums including “Seelenbahnen” (2014), “Alles oder Dich” (2019) and “Perspektiven” (2022), and he has collaborated frequently, notably his duet with Maite Kelly on “Warum hast du nicht nein gesagt?”. Firmly established on the stages of Germany, Austria and Switzerland, he is also associated with the summer concerts “Kaisermania” in Dresden, which have formed an important part of his live activity since the early 2000s.
